NBA superstar LeBron James is still going strong at the age of 37 entering his 20th season in the league next year. Last year, even though the Los Angeles Lakers failed to land a playoff spot, James had a good season individually. It is mind-boggling to think that someone at 37 could average 30 points per game in the NBA. To make things interesting, James last averaged 30 points during the 2007-08 season with the Cleveland Cavaliers. It was just his 5th season in the league and his first stint with the Cavs.

After the poor season from the Lakers, the fans expected a lot of changes to the roster. They wanted some improvements to the squad. Throughout the off-season, there were a wide variety of rumors involving almost every Laker. And LeBron James was no different. There were reports suggesting that James might go back to his home team, Cavs.

LeBron James to the Cavaliers rumor

LeBron James added fuel to the rumor when he said, “door’s not closed”, to the possibility of rejoining the Cavaliers. And the report suggested that Cavs could get James for Collin Sexton and others. However, there are reports coming out claiming that Sexton is not happy with the Cavs’ lowball offer.

As per reports, Sexton is looking for a massive contract worth around $80 million. But the Cavaliers are not willing to commit that amount of money to the young guard. The Cavs selected Sexton as the 8th overall pick in 2018. In his first year in the NBA, he averaged 16.7 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 3 assists per game in 82 games.

He consistently improved his craft. And in his third year, he averaged 24.3 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game. However, Sexton missed a huge part of last season through injury and only played 11 games. While his potential for everyone to see, the Cavs are hesitant in offering him a huge deal. It would push the Cavs into the luxury tax threshold which is something they are reportedly unwilling to do.

Also, they have recently committed to Darius Garland as they agreed to a max extension with the All-Star. In his third season in the NBA, Garland averaged 21.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 8.6 assists per game last year. He also made the All-Star team last year.

So it looks like Cavs have made up their mind when they offered the max contract to Garland. If Sexton isn’t happy with the offer, the Cavs might opt for a sign-and-trade for the young guard. It will be interesting to see whether the Lakers will show interest in Sexton.
