Charles Barkley Emotional As His Dad Passes Away: “We had a Rocky relationship the first 20 or 30 Years of My Life”

Like many NBA stars, Charles Barkley surrounded himself with a supportive family to help him during strenuous points in his career. NBA fans popularly nick named Barkley as ‘the Round Mound of Rebound’. Many fans consider ‘Sir Charles’ as an NBA legend. Barkley recently talked about his father’s demise.

Former NBA star Charles Barkley revealed details about his relationship with his father. Barkley spoke about his father while speaking on his podcast, ‘The Steam Room’ with co-host Ernie Johnson. He described the gradual improvement of his relationship with his father before his unfortunate demise.

Barkley said, “And last and definitely not least, my dad passed away Christmas week. And me and my dad have had a complicated relationship. I want to make it perfectly clear, for the last long years of our life, we have had a great relationship. We had a rocky relationship the first probably 20, 30 years of my life.”

Charles Barkley himself is a father to a daughter, Christina Barkley, through his marriage with Maureen Blumhardt. He married Maureen in 1989. Charles played for the Philadelphia 76ers in 1989.

Charles Barkley and his childhood career and familial ties

Born in 1968, Charles Barkley was raised in Leeds, Alabama. Barkley had a rough childhood with his father Frank Barkley abandoning his family after divorcing Barkley’s mother, Charcey Glenn. His mother however moved on and remarried. Barkley’s stepfather passed away in an accident when the former was just 11 years old.

Studying at Leeds High School, Barkley failed to secure a spot on the varsity’s roster partially because of his short stature. As a senior on the team, he averaged 19.1 points and 17.9 rebounds per game. In the state high school semi finals, Barkley scored 26 points paving a way to a successful college career and an NBA career.
