Capital One’s ‘The Match’ will return on June 1st. Just like always, the NFL legends are invited to play against the current young football players. NBA players are also invited to The Match. Charles Barkley and Phil Mickelson took on Peyton Manning and Stephen Curry in 2020. Apart from Barkley and Steph, Michael Jordan took more interest in golf.

He used to bet crazy amounts on single shots. Not only that but his gambling history was already gold and golf was just another addition to it. In the upcoming Match, Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers will team up against Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen. Though would they challenge the young guys to a wager?

Shaq reminds Chuck’s wagers on the golf course but not as big as Michael Jordan’s

Before game 3 of the Warriors versus Mavs, Brady and Rogers were invited virtually on the show. Both seemed pretty optimistic about their upcoming match versus the young players. O’Neal asked if Brady would wager with Mahomes, just as Barkley does when he is on the golf course.

Brady replied, “Always, you gotta stay focused. I know Charles had quite a few over the years.” Meanwhile, Brady, the 7-time Super Bowl champion, believes that he is the lowest-paid player on the golf course among Aaron Rodgers, Patrick Mahomes, and Josh Allen. Barkley and Mickelson won the Match in 2020 versus Curry and Manning.

The Match is mostly for charity, raising funds for several schools in America. Though Barkley, who would wager on the golf course, is no less of a gambler than Michael Jordan. However, Chuck once exposed MJ for the crazy amounts he used to bet.

He said, “We’d be playing golf with certain people, a couple hundred dollars a hole, nothing big, and he’d be playing some guy for $100,000. He’s like, ‘Charles, pick that up.’ I’m like, ‘This putt is for $200.’ He’s like, ‘Pick that up, Charles, get out of my way, you’re in my line.’ I’m like, ‘How much is that putt for?’ He’s like, ‘$300,000.’ I said, ‘Let me get out of your line.’ It was crazy man. It was crazy.”

Michael Jordan is a better gambler than Chuck

Unlike Jordan, Chuck’s gambling skills are not so good. While MJ loved gambling on the golf course, Barkley was more of a blackjack guy. Charles is not on the list for this year’s Match, but it will be interesting to see if he ever comes back on the golf course putting up wagers. Chuck once stated that he had won a million dollars in a single day 5-6 times. But he has also lost a million in a single day, 10-15 times.

Gambling was kind of a habit for Barkley. A lot of players back in the 90s era would gamble on planes, sometimes while on the golf course or even on other sports, predicting the winner. Gambling is a great sport if one has enough knowledge, and Chuck didn’t exactly fall into that category.
