Analyzing and commenting on games might seem like a very comfortable profession at first glance. However, it has its pros and cons. One of the biggest cons of this industry is the number of fans who will be offended by the expert’s opinions on a regular basis. And NBA legend Charles Barkley is one of the most well-known analysts. Despite his immense fan following, he is still attacked on a regular basis because of his opinions. During an appearance on the Spittin’ Chiclets podcast, the Hall of Famer chimed into his profession.

Not only fans, but Barkley had once offended Sonya Curry, Stephen Curry‘s mother. Interestingly, he also revealed that an NBA legend had given Chuck some useful advice before he ventured into the media world.

More often than not, Barkley’s controversial claim lands him in trouble. This is not something he is not aware of. Julius Erving, or Dr. J, had warned Barkley of the cons of being a media analyst. The biggest one is that he will be offending people on a regular basis.

Barkley said, “People know you are going to be honest and a straight shooter. Now, that’s gonna work on TV but you always gonna be putting out fires because people gonna come for you.”

Prior to venturing into the NBA media world, Barkley had taken some useful advice from Dr. J and his mentor, Dick Ebersol. Dr. J asserted that NBA fans want to hear only two things. The first one is that their favorite player is playing well and the next one is that their favorite team is playing well.

Not only the fans, but Barkley has had bad blood with eminent personalities because of his controversial takes. One of them is Sonya Curry.  

Barkley had once made some scathing remarks about Golden State Warriors star Klay Thompson. His words didn’t sit well with the four-time NBA champion who talked about Barkley’s comments during a press conference.

Moreover, Sonya Curry also came to the rescue of her son’s teammate. “You don’t owe anyone any explanation,” wrote Curry under an Instagram post of Thompson’s interview.

Barkley’s honesty has affected his personal relationships

The Phoenix Suns legend and six-time NBA champion Michael Jordan were great friends at one point in time. However, it all changed when Jordan took over the reins of the Charlotte Hornets.

Unlike his playing career, Jordan did not find much success while handling the Hornets’ proceedings. Barkley was unbiased as he very rightly criticized MJ. This did not sit right with his old friend who cut off all ties. Although Chuck has expressed his desire of mending things with Jordan multiple times, it seems the Chicago Bulls legend has no intention of making initiatives.
