Michael Jordan made two returns to the NBA. Once was with the Chicago Bulls, where he was highly successful and he won three more titles. Another time it was with the Washington Wizards where he came to finish his career. Here, it was quite different, as Jordan missed the playoffs and there was a lot of turmoil in the team.

Kwame Brown was on the Wizards team that had Jordan. He was drafted number one overall in the 2001 draft and is considered to be the biggest bust in NBA history. Apparently, part of the reason was Jordan. Reports suggest Jordan used to criticize Brown a lot and Brown, being a young player, couldn’t handle the pressure and his game dropped drastically. But a former Knicks legend who was on the Wizards at that time says that was not the case.

Oakley, a former teammate of Jordan, was on the Wizards team and he was a veteran at that time. Recently, Oakley was on the Club Shay Shay podcast and was asked if Jordan was hard on him. He said, “He might have Kwame catch the ball, something like that. But he didn’t ride Kwame like. He invests in you, he wanted you to do well.”

He was also asked why Brown turned out to be a bust. Oakley says Brown had a lot of potential and was intelligent and he understood the game. But he got in his own way and he was lazy. And when he wanted to work harder, the management didn’t spend enough time with him.

There was a lot of noise during Jordan’s time with the Wizards. He was often calling his teammates out for the lack of effort and commitment. But in the end, Jordan wanted to win. He came at the age of 38 to show that he was still great and he wasn’t shy to call out people who didn’t believe they could win. And Brown was one of them.
