Throughout his playing career, Tyronn Lue played with countless NBA stars. The list started with legends, Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant, and also included stars like Tracy McGrady. However, for Lue, McGrady’s performance was just as iconic.

During an interview with Quentin Richardson and Darius Miles on The Players’ Tribune’s Knuckleheads, Lue ended up discussing his time playing with McGrady. Of course, a slight comparison with Jordan was expected.

While on the podcast, Lue was asked about his time with the Magic. As he was with the team only for two seasons, Lue played with McGrady on the roster in 2003-04.

“He was the same talent,” Lue said. He spoke about McGrady’s talents, which included everything from passing to scoring very easily. It is not a skill everyone possesses and is indeed a sign of an iconic player. “He just score so easy. Something like no effort”.

Furthermore, Lue also discussed McGrady not making NBA’s Top 75 list. Created for the NBA’s 75th anniversary, this list was to include all iconic NBA players of all time. McGrady not being a part of that list was indeed a surprise for Lue.

For the Los Angeles Clippers coach, it is not just about going out and trying to win some championships.“You a top player”.

Lue discussed McGrady’s iconic 62-point game

Along with his game, Lue also spoke about McGrady’s 62-point performance against the Washington Wizards on March 10, 2004. As a starting point guard, Lue had only four assists and 10 points throughout the game, and McGrady dropped 62 points. The Magic won 108-99.

“I really didn’t enjoy it, but I should have,” McGrady had said back then. Even though he did not have as much fun, the performance will surely remain iconic.

That being said, Lue’s career has indeed seen many great teammates. Along with Jordan, McGrady, and the late Kobe Bryant, Lue has also played with stars like Shaquille O’Neal and Dirk Nowitzki.

McGrady, who spent four seasons in Orlando, also played with Toronto Raptors and the Houston Rockets. He retired from the NBA in 2012 with the Atlanta Hawks. Lue, at the end, last played in 2009.

Though Jordan and McGrady’s career arc cannot be compared, one can never look past what the latter did in Orlando and otherwise. His scoring has often been praised, remembered by fans and teammates alike.
