Days After Dwyane Wade, Magic Johnson, Viola Davis and Thousands Mourn 96 YO Legend, Lakers Icon Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Celebrates His “Legacy”

Since the deadly pandemic, the world has mourned the loss of many stars. From Kobe Bryant to Bill Russell, the basketball world has also lost quite a few of its best in the past few years. However, recently, the NBA community joined hands with others to bid adieu to a legend who won everyone’s hearts without playing the game. The Los Angeles Lakers legend, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar joined in a barrage of NBA legends and Hollywood stars to pay tribute to a creative legend.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has always made sure that the world remembers legends who might not be talked about enough in the dynamic world of social media. In a similar manner, the Cap recently tweeted out an emotional tribute to a 96-year-old legend who passed away a few days ago.

The cap was emotional like many when a once-in-a-lifetime musician passed away after living a long and happy life. On Tuesday, 25th April 2023, Harry Belafonte, the musical legend passed away at his home in Manhattan. According to a report by The New York Times, the cause of his death was congestive heart failure.

The artist smashed racial barriers in the 1950s, making a huge impact on the culture, the results of which are visible to this day. Hence, he was given a deserved tribute by artists and stars all around the world. In a short tweet, the Miami Heat legend, Dwyane Wade offered his condolences to the legend. Magic Johnson also offered his respects to the late Mr. Belafonte with an Instagram post, recalling his significant achievements since the start of his career in 1948

The ‘Air’ star, Viola Davis also joined in the NBA legends to pay her tributes to the great through an Instagram reel. Both Davis and Belafonte shared an unlikely connection as the duo were the members of the exclusive EGOT club aka the winners of an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony award.

Finally, recently, the Cap paid his tributes to the musical legend with a tweet highlighting the words that would signify Belafonte’s legacy.

“To be inspiring is the best legacy one can have. Harry Belafonte was one of our best,” he captioned the picture of Belafonte.

He also wrote an article on his blog, Kareem Substack, to remember Belafonte’s impact on black culture through his music. His words were aimed to educate many youngsters who were unaware of the musical legend’s impact outside of music.

Harry Belafonte actively participated in every major social justice movement, whether it was fighting against apartheid or advocating for LGBTQ+ rights. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer once said “…I would hate for my children to look at me and to say, ‘Where were you during the moment of the great decision?’”
