NBA legend Dennis Rodman opened up about his relationship with former Detroit Pistons teammate Isiah Thomas. In an episode of the Breakfast Club, Rodman said that Thomas took care of him while he was in Detroit and he was like a family. However, after playing for the Pistons for seven seasons, Rodman was traded to a different team.

Dennis Rodman sure did accomplish a lot with the Chicago Bulls. However, it was his time with the Detroit Pistons that was most significant to him. The Pistons had selected Rodman in the 1986 NBA Draft. Fans might find it hard to believe, but Rodman was actually extremely shy when he first joined the Pistons. But he immediately formed a close bond with his teammates and the head coach Chuck Daly.

Together, their team came to be known as the infamous ‘Bad Boy Pistons’.Their team was also known for taking down NBA legend Michael Jordan with the ‘Jordan rules’. Evidently, it was Jordan’s one of the greatest rivals Thomas who had cracked the code to defeating His Airness and ultimately the Chicago Bulls. The new tactics enabled the Pistons to win two consecutive championships by taking MJ out of the equation.

Dennis Rodman and Isiah Thomas’ relationship

In an episode of The Breakfast Club, the host mentioned the documentary on the Detroit Pistons, 30 for 30: Bad Boys. He said that the documentary showed the love that the Pistons players had for each other. The host recalled that Isiah Thomas actually went off camera when Dennis Rodman’s drastic personality change was being talked about.

Thomas was apparently upset because Rodman had started smoking and drinking, but he couldn’t do anything about it because they were on different teams. Surprisingly, Rodman replied that he didn’t want to watch the documentary because it brought back hurtful memories.

“Isiah have been there from day one. He’s like a brother, a mother, a father. I was the only one there and he was the only one that took care of me,” said Rodman.
