WNBA star Brittney Griner has spent over eight months in a Russian jail. She was first arrested at an airport for carrying cannabis oil. She pleaded guilty and after multiple hearings, a Russian court sentenced her to nine years in jail. This came as a huge shock for Griner and her fans. Many celebrities showed their outrage about the sentence. They felt the sentence was too harsh given the amount of cannabis oil she was allegedly carrying. Many celebrities used their platform to show their support for her.

Interestingly, NBA legend Dennis Rodman took it to another level. Shockingly, he explained he himself would travel to Russia and bring Griner back. However, given his friendship with the leader of the North Korea, Kim Jon-un, it is not shocking that Rodman would attempt something like this.

While many made fun of Rodman for his comments, the United States government was not amused. A government official stated Rodman could complicate and hinder the chances of bringing Griner back home. After this, the Chicago Bulls legend decided not to take the trip to Russia.

Like Trinity Rodman, many other celebrities have voiced their support for Griner. Recently, soccer legend Alex Morgan showed her support for the basketball star via Twitter. Furthermore, NBA superstar Stephen Curry took time to talk about her during the Warriors ring night. However, nothing has helped so far.

The Russian judiciary has rejected Griner’s appeal and withheld its initial sentence. Now, it looks like a prisoner swap is the only option to bring her back home.
