The Memphis Grizzlies have become somewhat of a villainous team in the NBA. From the whole Dillon Brooks saga against the Los Angeles Lakers to Ja Morant‘s off-court antics that saw him get a multi-game suspension, the Grizzlies can’t seem to catch a break. While Memphis received a lot of flak due to its players, the backroom staff has been working tirelessly to build a championship-caliber team. With the surprise addition of Marcus Smart and an NBA veteran so far, this offseason is proving to be promising, as can be seen by Morant’s tweet.

Having a young core with the needed experience, the Grizzlies can be a feared opponent in the West. However, the franchise has received unwanted attention, with teams and players despising them across the league.
Major off-season updates leave Ja Morant delighted
The Grizzlies signed free agent Derrick Rose after his contract with the Knicks came to an end. Signing a rather small contract worth $6.5 million for 2 years, Rose will be quite the addition to this young squad. With all the drama surrounding Morant’s off-court exploits, an experienced figure would do him good.

Having spoken highly of the former MVP before, Morant once revealed his admiration for Rose. With both men being explosive guards that love to attack the rim, it’s no surprise that Ja looks to emulate Rose’s game. Looking to form a duo that Axel Rose would be proud of, the newly dubbed “Guns and Roses” will attract a lot of attention this season. However, that wasn’t the only major update from Memphis.

Hours after Rose’s arrival, Desmon Bane signed a five-year max extension. Signing a $207 million contract, Bane joins Ja and Jaren Jackson Jr. on long-term deals. The 2019 ROTY took to Twitter to celebrate the news by tweeting “MONYUNNN“.

BREAKING: Memphis Grizzlies G Desmond Bane has agreed on a five-year, $207M max contract extension, his agents Jim Tanner, Max Wiepking and Terrence Felder of @_Tandemse tell ESPN. Grizzlies’ cornerstone players — Ja Morant, Jaren Jackson Jr., and Bane — are secured long-term.
With the addition of Marcus Smart, there is going to be some healthy competition in the backcourt in Memphis. Nonetheless, Bane’s extension didn’t excite fans as much as it did Morant.
Desmond Bane’s new contract extension receives mixed reactions
While Ja Morant was over the moon with Desmond’s new extension, the same cannot be said of the Memphis faithful. Many fans felt the deal was overpriced, as many including this one tweeted “Holy such a big overpay.”
Such an overpay
While many fans felt the same way about the extension being overpriced, few pointed at the long-term effects of the trade, with one stating, “Too much….It will be difficult for Memphis to strengthen in the future, such a lineup cannot get a ring.”

There were those who felt Desmond Bane was deserving of it, as one pointed out “When they win without ja, he has came up big”.
