Despite $5 Million Net Worth, Brittney Griner Had Lunch With the Security Staff at Phoenix Area, Winning Wife Cherelle’s Heart

Brittney Griner’s journey to becoming who she is has not been easy. She faced tough challenges and traumatic situations most of her life. While growing up Brittney Griner had trouble understanding why she was different and wished that she was just a normal girl. However, her doubts and pressure from society did not stop her from finding herself. Fortunately, the WNBA is a big part of it. Despite her struggles, the tough situations could not stop Griner from becoming a down-to-earth and loving human being off the court.

During an interview with Time in July, Brittney Griner‘s wife Cherelle shared that BG loved to spend time with different people and often had lunch with the security staff of the Phoenix Arena. The Pheonix Mercury center is currently fighting another battle after being detained in Russia since February 17.

Griner pleaded guilty to drug possession charges after being detained at the Moscow airport over 215 days ago. The Russian court sentenced BG to nine years in prison in July. The 2014 WNBA champ remains detained in Russia while the Joe Biden Administration is doing all they can to bring Griner home.

Brittney Griner likes to know all her coworkers

The 8-time WNBA All-Star is worth around $5 million. She spent most of her offseasons playing in basketball leagues overseas. In the last few years, Griner earned an extra $1.5 million playing in Russian for the UMMC Ekaterinburg. She also became the first gay athlete to be signed by Nike. However, success and greatness have not faded Griner’s humility.

Cherelle was impressed by how Griner seemed to know every employee that worked there. BG’s wife continued“She often will go eat her lunch in the employee lounge in the arena in Phoenix with the security, because she says, ‘I want to know all my co-workers.’ “

Cherelle Griner revealed that she first met Brittney at Mooyah Burgers on the Baylor campus. BG was going through a tough personal situation after her first marriage with former WNBA star Glory Johnson ended after 28 days in 2015.

Griner’s fight for freedom continues

It shows the humbleness of Brittney Griner. She is a world-famous basketball star and spends most of her time playing. Griner’s journey has been filled with tests about her individuality.
