The rivalry between the Michael Jordan-led Chicago Bulls and the Bad Boy Pistons, spearheaded by Isiah Thomas, makes up a good chunk of NBA folklore. If there is one person the Chicago Bulls legend hated during his time in the league, it was Thomas and The Last Dance docuseries confirmed that. MJ and Thomas have always been at odds and continue to do so. Such was the animosity between them that the Detroit Pistons star missed the chance of being a part of history back in the 90s.

However, Thomas recently shared why he wasn’t completely devastated by the incident. When The Last Dance was released, not only did it sever Jordan’s relationship with Scottie Pippen but also reignited a decades-old rivalry with Isiah Thomas. The Pistons legend had expressed his displeasure with MJ when the latter admitted that he hated Thomas and called him an a**hole publicly.

Isiah Thomas recalls his exclusion from the 1992 Dream Team

The 1992 US basketball Men’s basketball team is widely known as the “Dream Team” for a reason. Not only was it the first American team to include active NBA players but the presence of several All-Time great players made it a legendary assembly. With players such as Larry Bird, Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson and Patrick Ewing, among others, on the roster, the Dream Team is widely considered to be the greatest team ever assembled.

However, the absence of Isiah Thomas, one of the best point guards in the league at the time, did not go unnoticed by fans. Before the ’92 Olympics, the Pistons legend had led his team to two straight championships and even managed to give His Airness a run for his money. Therefore, Thomas’ exclusion from the team came as a shock. This led many to speculate that MJ had something to do with Thomas’ snub and rumors of Jordan’s ‘secret meeting’ spread like wildfire.

Taking a trip down memory lane, Thomas recently gave his thoughts on the incident in the latest episode of SHOWTIME Basketball. The 61-year-old also revealed a positive he came out with after the whole fiasco.

Thomas shared that while getting snubbed from the team was devastating, he looked at it from a positive perspective. He stated, “I’m from the Westside of Chicago, so it’s like-you didn’t make it, whatchu gonna do? You can cry about it or you can move on with your life! So I just kept moving on.”

Me not making it has given me more pub than if I would have made it. There is always some good and some bad with it. I like the fact that people acknowledged it, even though if the institution did not acknowledge. The people acknowledged that I should have been on the team,” he added, as he burst out in a fit of laughter.

This really shows the value of having a positive outlook on life.
