The Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James made history in the game against the Oklahoma City Thunder. ‘The King’ passed the Lakers legend, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, on the all-time scoring list. A record that was safe for about 38 years and that many believed was an impossible feat was broken by the four-time NBA champion. Many also believed that there was some turmoil between the two. However, Abdul-Jabbar’s recent comments may put that argument to rest.

Though the Lakers lost that game to the Oklahoma City Thunder, James was still the talk of the night. He finished the game with a 38-point performance and ‘The Captain’ himself congratulated him for surpassing him.

Recently, Kareem has not only acknowledged his on-court greatness but his work off the court as well. For those of you who do not know, LeBron James has a school located in Akron, Ohio, named the ‘I Promise School.’

Not only that, but James’ foundation also pays for college tuition for students who cannot afford to do so. Kareem shined a light on that in a recent interview, saying, “He’s sending an entire school district to college to pay their tuition. This is awesome. I wish I had the means to do it myself, you know. His thinking on this is right in tune with what Dr. King was talking about. A rising tide lifts all boats.”

Many fans in the comments section pointed out how James is hated for various different reasons despite his philanthropic work. One fan commented, “Lebron is hated too much for the wrong reasons.”

While another fan commented, “I love that Kareem is able to realize when he needs to reconsider his thoughts on situations and individuals. (He previously was a bit too critical of Lebron). More than his activism, I believe it is this trait that should define his greatness. We should all strive for more self-awareness.”

Here are a few more reactions from fans on Facebook.

“May God continue to bless him in all aspects of his life…exponential blessings.”

“Look, I clown about LeBron, but I know he’s a great player and he has elevated the game and he does great work outside of BBall. I clown because how can you not? It’s competitive for fans as well, so I’ll keep clowning, but he will keep playing good ball in spite of what I or anyone else says.”

“People are going to find a way to be negative about LeBron in 3…2…1…”

“Le Champion shows Kareem isn’t biased. Criticizes what deserves it, but praises what’s good.”
