The only constant in the NBA world is its perpetual debate of who may be the greatest of all-time. It is not often that the league witnesses generational talents like LeBron James and Michael Jordan. Moreover, it also attracts a debate to find the great among the greats. Fans are often equipped with their own rationale, schemes, and analogies for defending their greatest-ever pick. Similarly, an NBA legend stirred up the greatest-ever debate by picking Jordan over James in spite of King James nearly overtaking Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s All-Time NBA record.
Michael Jordan is arguably one of the greatest players in NBA history. He could be considered one of the most influential factors in the NBA’s global reach. Despite his massive achievements, Air Jordan falls short of James in the total points scored.

NBA Champion coach picks Jordan over LeBron James
In a recent tweet by Dave McMenamin, an author and NBA reporter quoted NBA legend Doc Rivers’s hot take on the greatest-ever debate. According to McMenamin, Rivers said, “I think Michael [Jordan] is the greatest of all time, but that doesn’t take anything away from LeBron. LeBron’s had the greatest career.” He further said, “I think he’s [James] going to have the greatest career of all time. I think he’s already had it.
“Thank God It’s Not Doc Rivers”: Fans Celebrate After LeBron James’ Lakers Announce Their New Head Coach
LeBron James surpassed 38,000 points in his NBA career during the Sunday night game against the Philadelphia 76ers. King James has only 300-odd points left to beat the All-Time NBA scoring record. The Los Angeles Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar currently holds the record with 38,387 points. Despite James’s massive feat, the former NBA coach prefers MJ as the greatest. Whereas, MJ stands fifth in the scoring list with 32,292 points. The fans often say that if MJ hadn’t missed a few seasons in his career, he would have topped the scoring list. However, the Chicago Bulls legend holds the record for the All-Time best average in NBA with 30.12 points.

Doc Rivers had achieved more as an NBA coach than as a player as he led Boston Celtics to their championship in 2008. He also once spoke about the lack of recognition for Abdul-Jabbar in a podcast. He said, “I don’t think Kareem Abdul-Jabbar gets enough credit when you think about he was on the all-defensive team I think 11 straight years, he seventeen-time All-Star.”
