Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James is considered one of the best players to ever play the game of basketball. Numerous accolades and four NBA championships only add to his legacy. Not to mention the number of records he has broken over the years. However, one former NBA All-Star had a different take on LeBron’s legacy, wherein he included the likes of Kobe Bryant, Allen Iverson, and Chicago Bulls legend, Michael Jordan.

Recently, former Washington Wizards All-Star Gilbert Arenas gave a new take on The King’s legacy in the NBA, and he made sure to drag in some of the best offensive scorers to ever grace the game of basketball.

Gilbert Arenas sat down for an episode of ‘Gil’s Arena’, where he talked about how LeBron James surely is a great player, but he is not feared like some other legends of the game. Arenas said, “You can’t use that as a negative against LeBron. You know, everyone feared Jordan and that’s why he’s better than LeBron. Did anyone fear Magic Johnson?”

“No. Did anyone fear John Stockton or Karl Malone? No. Right? The fear comes from what that person’s capability is. Right? As an offensive player, the capability of what Jordan’s gonna do if you’re not on point. That’s where the fear came in at. Michael Jordan was feared. Allen Iverson was feared. Kobe was feared,” he added.

“Guys who have the ability to score 30 to damn 70 points, they’re feared. Right? LeBron James was an all-around player. Even though he gave you 40, it wasn’t the same 40. Versus some like Allen Iverson or Kobe or Michael Jordan. So you didn’t fear the capability of what he was gonna do to you. Right?”

Arenas then pointed out how a guy who puts up 30-point triple-doubles doesn’t instill fear in the opposition. Instead, someone who is capable of going off for 60 points on any given day is scarier. While James’ all-around game has been praised for years, some former players have recently pointed out how opponents don’t fear the four-time NBA champion.

The point that Gilbert Arenas made may have some merit to it. But it would be wrong to say that other players do not fear LeBron James. James may not have had the effect that players like Kobe Bryant, Allen Iverson, or Michael Jordan had, but certain coaches have described how it’s almost impossible to come up with a defensive game plan for James.

Arenas and the other two co-hosts went on to talk about the players who currently have that effect in the league. Everyone agreed when one co-host brought up the names of Stephen Curry and Damian Lillard. Indeed, both players are more than capable of putting up such numbers on any given night.
