According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the Golden State Warriors will release NBA player Mac McClung. The news was announced on October 3, 2022, after the Warriors’ preseason game against the Washington Wizards was held in Japan. The team has reportedly made the decision because they intend to bring in former Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Ty Jerome.

Born on January 6, 1999, the 23-year-old NBA star entered the league in 2021. After going undrafted, McClung signed with the Los Angeles Lakers on August 10, 2021. After the Lakers waved McClung, he went on to play in the NBA G League. McClung made his debut with a game-high 24 points, six rebounds, and nine assists while playing for the South Bay Lakers.

Two months later, on December 22, 2021, McClung entered a 10-day contract with the Chicago Bulls. The contract was further extended to 10 more days on January 1, 2022. However, McClung was assigned to the Windy City Bulls on January 4, 2022. McClung debuted in his first game with 19 points, and nine assists. After the contract’s expiration, McClung played for the Bay Lakers for about three months.

Stephen Curry’s NBA team decides to let go of Mac McClung

Mac McClung played two games for the Lakers in the 2022 NBA Summer League before joining the Golden State Warriors‘ summer squad. McClung entered a one-year non-guaranteed contract with the Warriors on July 22, 2022. The team will be signing Ty Jerome after the latter was waived by the Houston Rockets. The Warriors will also be signing a training-camp contract with the former Rockets player Anthony Lamb. Evidently, Jerome is more experienced as he would be entering his fourth season and has averaged 7.1 points. However, fans are disappointed to see McClung make his exit from the team.

NBA fans are rather displeased with the Warriors’ decision. A video of Mac McClung’s impressive dunk recently went viral and was received well by the fans. Therefore, it might be possible that the NBA fans’ displeasure was fueled by McClung’s mad dunking skills. Let’s take a look at some of the tweets.
