“Didn’t Sleep in My Bed the First Three Nights”: Struggling Brittney Griner Once Revealed Her ‘Pity Party’ When She Entered the WNBA

There is no denying that Phoenix Mercury star Brittney Griner was one of the best players in the WNBA. Despite all her controversies on and off the court, she was often the best player on her team.
Ever since her debut in the league, she had taken the whole basketball world by storm. However, her transition from college to the WNBA was not easy.

She had always been a top prospect during her time with the Baylor Bears and everyone expected her to be the #1 overall pick. After the WNBA draft, she shifted to Phoenix which wasn’t easy.
Griner talked about all her experiences in detail in her book, ‘In My Skin: My Life On and Off the Basketball Court’. She described her first days in Phoenix as a ‘pity party’ while also describing her living conditions.
Griner wrote, “I didn’t sleep on my bed the first three nights I was there, because it didn’t feel like my bed yet. I just slept on the couch in the living room and watched TV.“
One of her escapes from the difficulties was watching TV. The then-young sensation resorted to watching TV shows like Man vs Wild in order to help her cope with her problems.

As the Phoenix Mercury drafted Brittney Griner as the #1 overall pick, a lot was expected from the youngster coming out of Baylor Bears. Safe to say, she lived up to all the hype.

As expected, she had an instant impact on her team. During the 2011-12 WNBA season, the Phoenix Mercury was 6th in the league. Griner was drafted as the #1 overall pick in 2013 and the Mercury finished 4th in the league standings.
She was an All-Star in her rookie season and had phenomenal numbers. Griner finished the season averaging 12.6 points, 1.0 assists, and 6.3 rebounds.
