If you ask most NBA players who came into the league in 200os and early 2010s, their inspiration to play was Michael Jordan. He was an iconic role model, and he still is. However, this comes with a lot of pressure, as Jordan explained his biggest nightmare in 1991.

By 1991, Jordan was the face of the league. He came into the league in 1984, and within a few years, he was arguably the best player in the game. He had won two MVPs by 1991 and the only thing missing was the elusive championship. And by the end of that season, Jordan would accomplish that as well, as he went on to win his first title.

However, this put Jordan as the face of the NBA as he was looked up to by millions.

Michael Jordan says, as a role model, he couldn’t do any mistakes

By winning the championship, Jordan secured his place among the greats. And the league never had a player like him and they used his name to market it everywhere. Jordan was in tons of commercials, and he was everywhere. And this made him a role model to millions of fans around the globe.

When asked what it feels like being an iconic role model, Jordan said,” That’s probably one of the disadvantages of being a role model for so many is that every move you make has gotta be the right move, and if it’s the wrong move it can be misinterpreted in the wrong manner.”

He once revealed his biggest nightmare is that something terrible happened to him that could destroy millions of fans’ dreams or his image in their eyes. He felt that people thought it was easy to be Michael Jordan. But nobody understood how scared he was about the bad things, the things which could destroy his legacy and image.

Jordan had a few issues during his career, but he did not let them get big enough to taint his legacy. And he continued to deliver on the court, which cemented his image in people’s minds. And that is probably one of the reasons that he is arguably the greatest player of all time. However, even the GOAT is only human. And he was scared that his legacy would be destroyed.
