Shaquille O’Neal has given his opinion on relationship matters pretty frequently on his podcast. He has the required experience to fill this position suitably. The rapper says that he prefers his wife having “side pieces” to a divorce. He and his wife Joy Young have been separated for quite some time. Trick Daddy refuses to sign the divorce papers until his current girlfriend decides to marry him.

He said, “The only way I’d get divorced is if my girl wants me to marry her. In my mind right now, I’m like a dual point guard. One and done.” The rapper told his ex-wife to stop using his name if they are divorcing.

The rapper wants to evaluate the men who her ex-wife “messes around”. He said, “I allow her to date. But now, I need to start evaluating these dudes who [she] mess with ’cause these are my boyfriends and husbands-in-law — and we need to get along. [And they] need to take care of my wife. They need to do what they need to do.”

Shaq was pretty shocked by that. He said, “I have to go to the chapter: To each his own.” DJ Diesel mentions that he wouldn’t do boyfriend or husbands-in-law. He would allow his wife to date if that makes her happy, though. It still didn’t jive with him, though.

Shaquille O Neal, himself, went through this terrible phase. He and his ex-wife Shaunie Nelson got divorced in 2009, citing irreconcilable differences. He still blames himself for how things went down. The big man gives no specific details.

They have remained friends. Shaunie recently remarried a pastor named Keion Henderson, and he wished her well in this relationship. Shaq is there for her as a friend and as a co-parent. They both have raised their kids admirably despite going their separate ways more than a decade back.

Shaq has no insecurity about his wife going on dates and having a second marriage. He has matured enough to see where he was wrong and corrected it. That should be ideal, but it’s often disregarded by many.
