Rodman initially took a team of veteran basketball players to North Korea for an exhibition game with their national basketball team. They traveled to the country after getting an invitation from the Olympic committee of DPRK. However, it was not received well in the country.

Furthermore, there were allegations that the exhibition game was a birthday present to Kim Jong Un as a video of Rodman singing “Happy Birthday” to the leader went viral. So the five-time champion and the team that traveled to North Korea gave a live interview to clarify things.

Dennis Rodman did not want any credit

During the live interview, Rodman was sure he and the ten players would receive abuse after coming back home. However, he was ready to take that if his travel could open new avenues for the two countries. And he was confident it would open doors. Fast forward a few years, the U.S. and North Korea had a historic summit as former president Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un met.

Dennis Rodman then claimed that Trump is taking all the credit. Rodman said, “But the things I have been talking about North Korea has came true. And explain how Donald Trump is taking all this credit. I’m like, ‘He’s taking all this credit.’ I don’t care who takes the credit just talk to the guy. And all of a sudden you see on TV, they are head to head like this and you see him laughing with Donald.”

The Chicago Bulls legend also claimed that Kim Jong Un is not a dangerous person and that he doesn’t want war. He just wants to be treated fair. And the situation he finds himself in is because of his grandfather and father.

During the summit, Rodman appeared on Live TV and talked about opening doors with his efforts and also about all the death threats and abuse he had to endure.
