So far, the NBA finals haven’t disappointed even one bit. Both the Golden State Warriors and Boston Celtics have put on a show for the fans. But it seems Warriors’ Draymond Green has more space to make mistakes as compared to the Celtics players. While speaking to the media, the 3-time champion said he has earned different treatment from the referees over the years. However, this did not sit well with the Celtics fans as they unleashed on him.

The Warriors put on one of their best efforts of the postseason in game 2 of the NBA finals. But they got their fair share of help from the referees. Green was in major trouble early in the game, picking up a technical foul after his altercation with Grant Williams.

While it all seemed fair at that point, he avoided a second technical, which left everyone in shock. He had a heated exchange with Celtics’ Jaylen Brown, and the two had to be separated. But Green did not receive any technical for shoving Brown as well.

Addressing the situation, Green said he has earned that kind of treatment from the referees and Celtics’ fans were not there to hear a word of it.

Draymond Green becoming the villain in Celtics fans’ eyes

The NBA Finals atmosphere is totally different from the regular season. A lot more chatting is let go, but the referees, like the atmosphere, are insanely intense. However, with Green appearing in six finals in his career, the former DPOY has his advantages.

Speaking about not getting a second tech, Green said he was never worried. He revealed to the media that the referees treat him differently because he has earned that treatment from the NBA officials.

He said: “Not at all… It’s the NBA Finals. Like I said, I wear my badge of honor. It’s not that I’m saying they necessarily treat me different. I’ve earned differential treatment from refs.” Looking at this, the Boston fans were full of resentment towards the Warriors star.

Green may have some edge over others due to his experience in the NBA finals. However, his altercation with Brown surely deserved some punishment. Not only did he put his head on Brown’s head, but he also followed it up with a push.

It was clear that Green got the support of the referees at the moment. But many analysts were against the refs and said Green got away. Even NFL Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe had the same opinion as most of the fans and analysts.

If Green had received a tech at the moment, the game would have looked a lot more different. With the Warriors‘ engine out of the game, Boston wouldn’t have had a third-quarter collapse as they did. Green is the most important defender for the Warriors, and his staying in the game changed the entire complexion.
