When she met Dwyane Wade in 2008, Gabrielle was 36 years old, and he was 26 years old. His son Zaire was already six, while Zaya was around one year old. When she entered Wade?s household as the Miami Heat superstar?s wife in 2014, her stepchildren were already heading into adolescence. Having successfully done hundreds of cinematic projects, the stepmother came with an iron hand and someone who was ?addicted to discipline?, mirroring the approach of her father.?

She voiced her sentiments in this regard to Krista, explaining, ?…the…Bobby Knight discipline that my dad subscribed to…I had to acknowledge that it wasn?t [helpful for the kids]. Therefore, she thought that this approach is going to work on Wade?s kids. The situation worsened because of this strict version of parenting and her realization helped her build more kindness and respect for her children.
