Russia finally set Griner free on December 8 as a part of a one-for-one prisoner swap deal. In exchange, the US authorities released convicted arms dealer Viktor Bout, who was serving a 25-year sentence in the country. Wade and Steph Curry showed their support in favor of Griner’s release amidst an influx of polarizing views throughout the country regarding the WNBA star’s release.

A recent report detailed, “Dwyane Wade and Steph Curry both showed love to Brittney Griner hours after the WNBA star was released from a Russian prison.” Meanwhile, NBA fans flooded social media to respond to Wade’s bold BG statement.

NBA fans expressed their opinions on the release of Brittney Griner. One fan wrote, “Brittney Griner is a true American hero.” The fan felt that BG was a hero after what she had been through in Russia.

Several fans did not seem happy about the release of Brittney Griner as Paul Whelan remains stuck in Russia. At the same time, others supported the return of Griner back home after facing some horrific conditions in Russia.

Meanwhile, Griner’s release came as a disappointment for former US marine Paul Whelan who remains stuck in Russia. Whelan was a part of the initial deal offered by the State Department. However, as per reports, Russia refused to release Whelan and Griner together in exchange for Bout.
