The story of the Milwaukee Bucks’ road to glory in the 2021 championship win has gotten more interesting. Antetokounmpo’s teammate Bobby Portis recently sat down for The Old Man & the Three podcast with JJ Redick and Tommy Alter. Here Portis detailed the story before he got signed with the Bucks and how a phone call with Antetokounmpo helped him get the deal.

Portis said, “I watched Milwaukee in the playoffs and I thought I could bring something different to them.”?“I hit my agent up and I’m like, what you think about Milwaukee?”. His agent at the time convinced him not to go for the Bucks as they “don’t have any money.”

Portis went back to his agent with the same proposal. This time he was adamant, and he asked for “Giannis’s number.”?He added, “I called him myself. I was like, Hey yo! Giann’, you don’t know me bro and I don’t know you, but I promise I can help you out win a championship, bro.”

The phone call changed the history of the Bucks who have been without an NBA Championship since 1971. Portis further said, “Six months later, we won a championship. I sign with them in November of 2020 and July of 2021. What’s that? 6-7 months, we won the championship.”
