The Hall of Fame guard and Miami Heat Legend Dwyane Wade was part of the Redeem Team of 2008. The USA put the team together to regain international supremacy in Olympic basketball. The collection of the greatest talents at that time spurred enough stories to produce a documentary series. The documentary features the superstars of the leagues and attempts to explore the story behind the ‘Redeem team.’ Dwyane Wade paid homage to his fellow star, the late great Kobe Bryant, and wished to remember the 2008 Olympic run together.

Dwyane Wade played for the Miami Heat, whereas Kobe Bean Bryant played in Hollywood for the Los Angeles Lakers. The two were one of the biggest stars in the 2000s. Both played the same position and were the fiercest competitors in the game.

Bryant and Wade idolized Michael Jordan growing up; they would shape their games and play styles by following the Chicago Bulls legend. Both were winners at the highest level, willing their teams to championships. Wade would win a championship with Miami Heat in 2006, whereas the Mamba would win back-to-back titles in 2009 and 2010. The two players were the face of the 2000s basketball.

Dwyane Wade gets emotional while remembering Kobe Bryant
Another common thing between the two players was that they were part of the USA men’s Olympic Basketball Team in the 2008 international Olympics, famously dubbed as the ‘Redeem Team.’

On the red carpet interview of the Documentary series, Wade got emotional when remembering his teammate and rival, the late great Kobe Bryant. Kobe Bean Bryant tragically passed away on Jan 26th, 2020, in a helicopter crash along with his daughter Gianna Bryant. Wade and Bryant were teammates on the ‘Redeem Team.’??“It would’ve been great to be able to watch this with him and just be able to go back and think about that time.”?Wade reflected on the ‘Redeem Team’ memories of 2008 and wished that Bryant was there with him to witness the release of this series. This wish of his showed how much he still misses the Mamba.

The Netflix’s ‘Reedem Team’ Documentry Series
The Netflix Documentary series on the ‘Redeem Team’ of 2008 explores the events of the 2008 Olympics featuring the biggest stars of the league.

After a disappointing performance of the USA men’s Olympic Basketball team in the 2004 Olympics and the 2006 FIBA championship coming home with just bronze medals, the idea of the ‘Redeem Team’ was born. This a reference to the ‘Dream Team’ of the 90s. The goal was to bring a collection of the best basketball talent in the USA and send them to Beijing to win the Gold back and restore American supremacy in international basketball.

The team featured stars such as LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Dwyane Wade, Chris Paul, and more. The team won the Gold completing its purpose and bringing glory to its country. Dwyane Wade was the tournament’s leading scorer and was instrumental in the team’s success. The stories surrounding the existence and formation of the group inspired Dwyane Wade and LeBron James to produce a documentary series in partnership with Netflix.
