Last season, in the absence of the Splash Brothers and obviously after the exit of Kevin Durant, it was Draymond Green who held the Warriors’ fort. It’s true they could win only 15 games, but the number could’ve been in a single-digit if not for this veteran forward.

The GSW organization is quite stable, with their key players sticking around ever since their rookie signing. But injuries are the one thing that has haunted them recently.
In fact, Draymond was also plagued by injuries, first in March 2020 (Sore knee) and then in December (Foot injury). However, he made a comeback and is contributing in unique ways.
Warriors’ coach showed his faith in Draymond’s importance
Mr. Dray’s average numbers have plummeted to a career-low in this season. He is registering just 4.9 points, 4.6 rebs, 6.7 assists, and 1.2 steals per game. But his contribution to the game has a far bigger reach than these data points.
In a recent interview, the side’s successful coach, Steve Kerr, expressed, “I don’t think I need anything more from Draymond… I’m fine with Draymond right now. I think he’s done a good job…”

Draymond Green has an innate ability to switch through positions and take newer roles, as per the demand of the squad. His flexibility and defensive prowess make him an integral aspect of the team. He can check quick offensive players and guard the bulky ones, taking full-blown heavy contacts. Off the ball, he can set screens and act as an on-court coach for the youngsters.
Draymond is more like a mentor even to Stephen Curry who would spend the off-court time playing cards with him. He is also someone who would not shy away from being the tough teacher to the rookies like James Wiseman. He would help them with analyzing the film sessions and making the most out of them.
So naturally, Steve Kerr must feel a little lighter with Draymond around, helping him with certain key roles.
