In January two years ago, the basketball world lost an icon. Kobe Bryant was involved in an unfortunate helicopter crash, along with eight others. The NBA was majorly affected by his loss. Players mourned the Mamba’s demise and were left in shock. Recently, while sharing the iconic 2012 Olympics moment, Kevin Durant felt the Lakers legend’s absence.

The battle between Kobe and Durant was always a show for the fans. They faced off 36 times in their career. Both offensive giants got the best out of each other. Durant got the better of the Black Mamba in the postseason. However, their legendary battle turned into a brotherhood in 2012. Likewise, the Olympics was flaming with the duo sharing the court.

Despite the gold medal being the biggest achievement, it was USA’s celebration that everyone fell in love with. Looking at the precious memory, Durant remembered his days with Kobe.

Kevin Durant keeps Kobe Bryant in mind

The 2012 USA Olympic team was one of the best groups assembled. All the best players were stacked up on one side facing off the world. After the 2008 conquest, the USA was out for more. In his debut Olympics, KD stole the show.

The Slim Reaper led the way along with the likes of LeBron James and Kobe. However, their medal celebration took the spotlight as all the players posed for the camera.

That moment still isn’t out of Durant’s memory. He reacted to the 2012 celebrations and said, “Bean tryna get his stance right is too funny. I Miss my dog everyday.” It was a journey USA basketball will never forget. It was Kobe’s second gold in a row. However, in the final matchup against arch-rivals Spain, the USA had no room to slip up.

The number 2 pick of the 2007 draft was on his scoring best. Durant averaged 19.5 points and was dominating every nation they played. However, his best performance came in the finals matchup against Spain.

KD put up 30 points to lead all scorers in the gold medal game. In addition, Kobe Bryant chipped in with 17 points as well. The USA beat the Spaniards 107-100 in an emphatic came to close out their Olympic journey.
