Dennis Rodman is called The Rebound King for a very justified reason. The NBA legend is one of the greatest basketball players of all time. However, he has also known as Dennis the Menace, which suits his personality just about right. Therefore, it wouldn’t come as a surprise to know that the former NBA superstar once lost about $35,000 in Vegas. While for fans, it was nothing new, Rodman’s ex-wife Annie Bakes did not take it well.

According to a 1993 Sports Illustrated article, Rodman went through a rough phase after Chuck Daly’s departure from the Detroit Pistons. He wanted the Pistons to trade him as he no longer had anyone he could rely on in the franchise. What broke him more was his wife and child’s departure. He expressed that he wanted to spend time with his daughter Alexis. However, at the same time, he didn’t want to visit the place where Alexis lived with the mother. While Rodman wished to remarry his ex-wife, Bakes made it clear that she would never get back together with Rodman.

“I will never marry Dennis. I will not go through that suffering again,” said Bakes.

Perhaps, such cut and clear decision came because of Rodman’s inability to be the father she wanted for their daughter.

Annie Bakes refuses to remarry Dennis Rodman

Dennis Rodman and Annie Bakes started dating each other in 1987. The former model was apparently attracted to Rodman after seeing his sensitive and innocent nature. The couple welcomed their daughter, Alexis Caitlyn on September 28, 1988. Rodman and Bakes tied the knot four years later, in 1992. However, their relationship soon turned sour and they decided to call it quits after 84 days. Bakes was not happy Rodman’s irresponsible behavior.

During the interview, she said that while Rodman got a tattoo of his daughter on his forearm, he reportedly did not care about her. She said that Rodman did not even send his daughter a Christmas gift or called Alexis on her birthday.

Furthermore, Bakes added, “He missed her first day of kindergarten. When she had chicken pox this summer, it took us three days just to find him. Sure, he lost $35,000 in Las Vegas on purpose, but why didn’t he just set up a trust fund for Alexis instead?”

What stung Bakes more was Rodman’s tattoo of one of his girlfriends. Bakes described the feeling as ‘a knife in her heart.’

In 2019, Rodman talked about his struggles with being a good father to his kids. The five-time NBA champion tearfully said that because he did not receive proper love and care in his childhood, it became hard for him to form a bond with his children.
