Stephen Curry is relishing his time off after winning his fourth NBA championship last season. And mostly, the Golden State Warriors guard can be spotted on the golf course. Curry has long captivated onlookers with his extraordinary marksmanship. In the off-season though, he put his hooping talents on hold and takes out time to hone his golf swing.

Curry has shared the golf course with some big names. One of them is Mexican boxer Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. The two superstars from completely different sporting worlds found common ground on the golf course last year.

Canelo Alvarez is well-known for his ability to crack skulls in the boxing ring. However, he has established a reputation as a solid golfer as well and has stated that he intends to retire from boxing at 37 to play the game every day. That’s how much the fearsome boxer enjoys the sport. However, when he encountered Curry on the golf course, instead of striking some balls together, they decided to square up.

Alvarez turned to Instagram to share a video of himself and the human sniper engaging in some playful sparring. Curry can be seen in the video throwing a punch at Alvarez, but he misses. Instead of countering with a punch of his own, the boxer decided to catch Curry off guard with one of his old tricks.

Alvarez kept the Finals MVP guessing with his phenomenal hand speed and went on to slap his cap. The boxer did it so swiftly that the Warriors’ superstar couldn’t fathom it and think about moving. All he could do was roll back his head in laughter and process the fact that the boxer got him.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Alvarez has outmaneuvered Curry with his remarkable reflexes and speed.

Canelo Alvarez caught Stephen Curry off guard with the same trick

Before linking on the golf course last year, Stephen Curry and Canelo Alvarez played a game of golf in 2020 as well. Interestingly, both the legends of their respective sports engaged in playful sparring, with the NBA player getting caught out with the same trick.

The sequence of events was almost identical. Alvarez, yet again showing his incredible hand speed, slapped Curry’s cap. His reaction was the same as last year’s, with him rolling his head back in laughter.

Curry must have understood after being caught out by the same trick that it’s extremely challenging to keep up with Alvarez’s hand speed.

Nonetheless, the two share a wonderful relationship, with Stephen Curry showing his support and respect for the boxer following his victory over Gennady Golovkin in their third rivalry bout.

Alvarez won the fight by unanimous decision and successfully defended his titles. Curry, who will kick off his 14th NBA season this upcoming campaign, will want to accomplish the same.
