The NBA and US politics have never been an unprecedented combination. A controversy, exchange of comments, disagreements or purely gestures of admiration and inspiration often follow this combination. Recently though, both the GOATs of the game of basketball were a part of a controversial series of comments made by the former US president. When it comes to Donald Trump, he is no outsider to controversy. And when he includes Michael Jordan and LeBron James in his speech, viral is a small word for the impact it would create.

In a recent speech at the Turning Point USA’s Student Action Summit in Tampa, Trump made some critical comments to mock King James. Trump suggested that he himself would have been the best women’s basketball coach if LeBron ever was to ever transition into a woman. During his speech, he mentioned how he loved Michael Jordan and disliked LeBron James. While it was clear which side of the GOAT debate Trump is on, he mockingly chose LeBron for his basketball team. However, the women’s basketball team and not the men’s.

“I don’t like LeBron James, I like Michael Jordan much better. But I’d go up to LeBron James and say LeBron, did you ever have any desire to be a woman? Because what I’d love you to do is star on my team that I’m building up. I’ll have the greatest team in history, they’ll never lose.” Donald Trump said about hypothetically building the greatest team in women’s basketball.

This was not the first time Donald Trump addressed the transgender athletes and became a topic of discussion in no time. Not many times have the athletes agreed with Trump, and that has been a notion for LeBron James as well.

Times when LeBron James did not see eye to eye with Donald Trump

Although LeBron has not responded to Trump using him in his speech, there have been many times that King James stood up to the 45th US president. Controversy has always entailed when the two different personas of different worlds exchange words. Moreover, it wasn’t the first time Donald Trump addressed LeBron James and left him unhappy, to say the least. Back in 2017 as well, Trump made remarks about LeBron’s intelligence. This led to LeBron slamming Trump back.

Even in Trump’s presidential tenure, LeBron was publicly not in favor of Trump. It is no secret that the two are not fans of each other by any scope of imagination. Two of the most popular people in the world have often got into a battle of words Be it through social media, speeches from Trump, or interviews from LeBron.
