The sequence of events commenced with Ja Morant’s Instagram live stream at a Denver nightclub, where the 2020 NBA Rookie of the Year was observed brandishing a firearm. Following this incident, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver engaged in a conversation with Morant and subsequently suspended him for consecutive eight games in the regular season. Morant was, however, once again captured flashing a handgun. As a consequence, Morant has been suspended from all activities of the Memphis Grizzlies.

Morant later faced accusations of punching a teenager several times during a casual basketball game at his residence. He then went inside his house and came back with a gun. His behavior off the court has had a negative impact on his performance on the court. As per his contract, if Morant was able to have a selection for any of the All-NBA teams, he would have a $39 million bonus. Despite averaging impressive statistics of 26 points, 6 rebounds, and 8 assists, his misconduct off the court prevented him from earning the prestigious All-NBA recognition.
