The Los Angeles Lakers succumbed to their second straight loss, losing back-to-back games for the first time in the 2020-21 season. Despite a hot start to the season, the purple and gold struggled against the Blake Griffin led Pistons. Following the victory, the Pistons improved their record to 5-14 this season.
While Detroit played great, the biggest headline of the game was Lakers collapsing in the fourth quarter of the fixture. LA struggled to find their shooting touch in the dying minutes of the game as they didn’t even score a single point for almost half of the last quarter.
Their superstar, LeBron James, was off to a blazing start in the first quarter, but LBJ cooled down as the game progressed. He finished the game with 22 points while shooting just 8-19 from the field.

LeBron made his 1st 7 shots … then went 1 for his last 12, scored 0 in the 4th quarter as the Lakers gave up a 19-2 run in the 4th. Yes, Lakers were playing back-to-back on the road, but these were the 4-14 Pistons who lost by 15 last night at Cleveland. MVP!? MVP!? MVP!?

AD or no AD, this is the worst loss of the Lakers season so far. By far. A complete collapse in Detroit.

Following this defeat, the Lakers have now dropped to the third spot in the Western Conference. They are now behind the Utah Jazz and LA Clippers. Moving forward, the defending champions need to take a few steps back and reevaluate their strategies.
Honestly, the whole team looked gassed in this fixture. Moreover, their defensive anchor, Anthony Davis, was rested tonight, and they struggled on the defensive end of the court without AD.

This season, the end goal for the Lakers is to retain their NBA title. But there are several teams in the league that can dethrone them. However, there is still a major part of the season left to be played and the purple and gold should be fine.
