The recent loss against the Dallas Mavericks brought the Los Angeles Lakers camp under the scanner. Despite turning up the heat post the All-Star weekend, the fans doubt whether the inconsistent Lakers could earn a playoff berth. Moreover, star player Anthony Davis took the NBA world by storm with his bold statement after the game. Notably, AD’s statement came in after his teammate’s harsh reality check while addressing the media following the heartbreaking loss.

The Lakers are currently the 11th seed in the Western Conference, barely staying afloat for the playoffs race. Apart from inconsistent performances, fans suspect a brewing beef between AD and LeBron James. Following Friday night’s loss, the Lakers need to bring their A-games if they want to be a part of the postseason.

The Lakers put up a neck-to-neck fight against the Mavs in Friday’s game. The Purple and Gold team had a 4-point lead with less than 15 seconds left in the fourth quarter. However, the Mavericks’ Maxi Kleber snatched the victory away from the Lakers by making 3 free throws and then swishing a buzzer-beater for the 110-111. The weary Lakers’ camp looked dejected after the heartbreaking defeat. Following the game, AD’s teammate Austin Reaves addressed the press and lashed out at the team’s intentions after the defeat.

He said, “If you don’t care about losing games that are really meaningful, then what’s the point of playing?” However, the stand-in leader of the side didn’t hold back, as he took the responsibility for the loss.

Davis, addressing the media, said, “I already came in and told them the last play was my fault.” In the absence of James, AD has carried the team gracefully on his shoulders with several high-scoring games.

The Lakers are in dire need of their two superstars to take the court at the same time. Davis missed the first half of the season with an injury while James is yet to recover from his ankle injury. Apart from his bold statement, he also took a drastic decision to focus on the playoffs berth.

AD’s drastic decision

In order to get into the playoffs mood, AD deactivated his Instagram handle recently. While the Lakers only have a thin chance of making the playoffs, Davis’ decision prompted fans to expect more from the team in the coming games. Notably, this isn’t the first time that a Lakers star had deactivated his social media. LeBron James had previously deactivated his social media ahead of the 2015 playoffs. However, James’ Cavaliers suffered a defeat against the Golden State Warriors in the Finals.
