The New York Knicks are one of the most glamorous franchises in the NBA, but they have not had great success. Their last title win was in 1973 and they have not reached the finals since 1999. The Knicks missed the playoffs for a long period and they were just considered to be a bad team. And now a former NBA head coach recently gave a brutal reality check for the Knicks.
Stan Van Gundy is a former head coach and a current in-game analyst. He is also the brother of former Knicks head coach, Jeff Van Gundy. Jeff was the Knicks head coach for 6 years and the Knicks made the playoffs each time. He was also the head coach when the eighth seed Knicks made the finals in 1999.

Stan Van Gundy recently gave his honest thoughts on the Knicks and their history. He said marquee free agents don’t actually force their moves to the Knicks but still, the fans believe that everyone is trying to be in New York.

Why haven’t the Knicks been able to attract star players?
You would imagine the Knicks would be one of the top destinations for free agents, but that has not always been the case. Over the last 15 years, the Knicks have only been able to acquire Carmelo Anthony to their team. They had a shot of getting LeBron, Wade, Durant, and others, but they failed to attract them.
One of the reasons could be their front office. The Knicks front office was considered to be one of the worst in the league. This deterred players to sign for the Knicks. Over the last few years, their reputation has improved, but they still have a long way to go. The Knicks fans will hope that their fortunes reverse soon as they have a massive free-agent market coming up soon.
