2020 NBA champions, the Los Angeles Lakers, failed to make their mark in the playoffs. The Phoenix Suns eliminated them in the first round. However, the Lakers played without their stars as Davis was out with injury and LeBron was playing through injuries.
Moreover, the playoffs exposed their lack of a playmaker or floor general. While LeBron James is on the team, they still need a player who can be the playmaker in his absence. The Los Angeles Lakers’ offense fell stagnant with James not on the floor, and they will want to make trades to fill that hole.

Chalmers wants to join the Lakers
NBA champion, Mario Chalmers, wants a workout with the Lakers to prove himself as an effective player. He recently tweeted out responding to rumors that the Lakers are looking for a ‘difference-making playmaker’.
Let me get a shot at this…..just a workout or let me come play pick up..RT @Sportando: Lakers reportedly aiming to a “difference-making playmaker” in offseason https://t.co/bi72cULiHw

The 35 YO looks to reunite with former teammate LeBron James. In his time at Miami, he won 2 championships with LeBron James. The starting guard for Miami, he is known for his ability to keep the offense going, while also having the ability to shoot the ball.
Chalmers played an important part in Miami’s championship triumphs. In the 2011-12 season, in just 29 minutes, Chalmers averaged 9.8 points and 3.5 assists. In the next season, he averaged 8.6 points and 3.5 assists in 27 minutes of play per game. Moreover, he shot 40% from deep.
Chalmers is also famous for his fight with LeBron James and being part of the play where James dunked on Jason Terry.

Will Chalmers trade benefit Los Angeles?
If the Lakers do allow Chalmers to work out and eventually sign him, he can definitely make a great impact. Chalmers is a type of player who can either keep the offense going, or make something happen by scoring himself. Furthermore, Chalmers is an asset on the defensive end.

Chalmers averages 1.5 steals for his entire career. Moreover, he does all this while averaging just 2 turnovers in 27 minutes. Mario Chalmers could be the force of the bench who can run the show when James is not on the court. He did run the infamous ‘Big 3’ in Miami with LeBron, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh.

So Chalmers definitely seems like a good fit. However, age could be a big concern. Lakers could make a trade for a much younger star who can stay at the organization for a long time. On the other hand, Chalmers is 35 years old and has not played in the NBA since the 2017-18 season. It all depends on the Lakers’ motive and if they have long-term goals or short-term goals in mind.

To sum it up, if given the chance, Mario Chalmers could definitely make an impact on the Los Angeles Lakers as a playmaker and frequent scorer behind LeBron and Anthony Davis. Could Chalmers prove that ‘age is just a number’ and provide the necessary playmaking the Los Angeles Lakers need?
