Former QB Robert Griffin III Resurfaces Brittney Griner’s Celebratory Baylor Days in Appeal to Bring Her Back

The whole world is praying for Brittney Griner’s safe return as the WNBA star is battling for her freedom in Russia. The Phoenix Mercury center was detained in Russia over eight months ago under drug possession and smuggling charges. Brittney Griner has since been sentenced to nine years in prison after vape cartridges filled with cannabis oil were found in her luggage.
Awaiting an appeal hearing scheduled for October 25, BG celebrated her 32nd birthday on October 18 inside a Moscow jail, preparing for the big day. Recently, Griner’s college mate and NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III has resurfaced an old picture from their days at Baylor University.

Brittney Griner and Robert Griffin III were student-athletes for the Baylor team in their respective sports. BG played for the Baylor Bears Women’s basketball team from 2009-13. Meanwhile, RGIII played on the Baylor Bears football team from 2008-11
Griffin supports former Baylor alumni Brittney Griner
RGIII and Griner had been friends at Baylor University. The NFL free agent shared an old picture in support of Cherelle Griner’s social media campaign #WeAreBG. Griner’s wife, Cherelle, the WNBA, her friend, family, celebrities, and fans have all come together to remind the eight-time WNBA All-Star that she had not been forgotten.
Moreover, they launched the #WereBG on the occasion of her birthday. In addition, the whole NBA fraternity came together in support of BG’s safe return during the opening ceremonies of the 2022-23 season.

The gesture from the former Baltimore Ravens QB will certainly motivate Griner to keep fighting and not give up. She is believed to be going through the toughest moments of her life presently. Knowing the support she is getting from the people at home, BG will have to keep fighting for her freedom.

The hopes of getting the verdict overturned are bleak. However, Griner’s lawyers suggested a possibility of a reduction in her sentence. However, if the order gets finalized, BG faces the threat of being forced to work in labor camps while spending her sentence in the infamous Russian penal colonies.
