Defeating the Golden State Warriors at this point is a very big deal, especially for a team that’s standing tenth in the Eastern Conference with a 14-15 record. So, when the Toronto Raptors pulled off a blowout win against them, Fred VanVleet was the obvious person the credit was bestowed upon.

While talking about his near triple-double performance, VanVleet decided to pass some comments about Lakers’ Russell Westbrook.

In Saturday’s game against the Warriors, the Toronto Raptors took full advantage of the former’s depleted roster. Many of the veterans, including Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, were sitting this one out. So, Fred VanVleet took it upon himself to steal the show with his 27 points, 12 assists, and 7 rebounds. He fell short a couple of rebounds into making it a triple-double night.

However, it did achieve its purpose as the Raptors triumphed over the Warriors with a 119-100 win. It did not stop VanVleet from passing comments at another fellow NBA player who is known to drop triple-doubles night in and out. He said, “My teammates don’t give me the Westbrook treatment and get out the way so I’m gonna have to have a word with them.”

Did the Lakers star have it coming?

Westbrook has dropped triple-doubles plenty of times during his career across seasons. Unfortunately, he has often been accused of taking defensive shortcuts while also taking rebounds from his teammates deliberately to increase his numbers. His shaky start this season with the Lakers hardly helped his case.
