It takes years to make money but only one second to lose all of it. As you earn money, you also tend to spend it. This is the law of nature. However, when you earn a lot of money, you also tend to get attracted to things which can take all of your money, within minutes.

Gambling is one of those habits. Many athletes also get addicted to gambling. One of these is also supposedly the GOAT, Michael Jordan. He has been alleged of gambled many times in his life.

He has also been a part of many controversies related to that. However, he has also won bets in golf, with one major bet winning against the Golf legend Tiger Woods. One of the major gambling controversies was also his golfing debt. Read to know more about it.

Michael Jordan lost $1 million to a businessman?

Michael Jordan had allegedly lost $1 million in his gambling bets against a businessman. A businessman based out of San Diego – Richard Esquinas, once alleged Michael owed him $1 million in golf bets. He wrote a book about it called “Michael & Me: Our Gambling Addiction … My Cry For Help!”

In this, he writes that he feels that he was a controlled gambler. However, his meeting with MJ made him go all out, which led to him going on a 10-day golf spree. Over this 10-day betting spree on Golf, he says that they lost about $1 million in that. He also says that the negotiations by Jordan led to the debt being reduced to $300,000.

Although Michael refuses these claims, he agrees to his gambling. He says that he doesn’t feel anything is wrong with that. However, Jordan had some words to say about this particular incident.

He said, “I have played golf with Richard Esquinas with wagers made between us. Because I did not keep records, I cannot verify how much I won or lost. I can assure you that the levels of our wagers was substantially less than the preposterous amounts that have been reported.”
