Steve Kerr has made a name for himself among the greatest coaches of all time. He is in his 8th coaching season and is back again in the Finals. Kerr joined in as the Warriors’ head coach in 2015, taking home another ring in his first season. Though this would not be it.

Kerr went on to lead the Dubs to 5 Finals appearances, winning 3 of them. Steve and the Warriors are back in the Finals after 2 bad seasons due to injuries. Though Kerr is now a veteran, he had done the most in his first 5 seasons. All his coaching knowledge doesn’t come from his own experience as a player but from being coached by some of the greats.

Steve played a key role in the Bulls‘ second three-peat. After Michael Jordan’s second retirement, the team had new players including Dennis Rodman and Steve Kerr. Kerr on the other hand was the best outside shooter on the team. Behind this Bulls team was the great Phil Jackson. Kerr’s time under Jackson must have been a great learning experience.

After winning 3 championships, Steve had an idea of how a championship team plays. But this wasn’t his only experience playing under a championship experienced coach. Kerr signed with the Spurs in 1998, winning 2 rings in San Antonio.

Kerr has 8 rings in total under his name. Phil Jackson has 11 rings as head coach, which include 5 for the Lakers and 6 for the Bulls. He had also won 2 as a player for the New York Knicks. Steve grabbed the championship brains and implanted them in a fantastic way.

Phil once had to convince Michael to give his teammates a chance. Kerr delivered when it was the right time.

Steve learned how a championship team works while playing for the Bulls. Whereas in San Antonio, he understood how a team is to be led by a coach. His record as a head coach speaks for itself. He knew how to coach exceptional players like Kevin Durant.
