Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green‘s suspension came as a shock to many in the NBA world, whereas the other half believed that it was a well-deserved ruling for Green’s actions. Less than a week later, fans witnessed Joel Embiid get into a similar mid-game altercation. Consequently, the Philadelphia 76ers star was awarded a flagrant foul 1 but helped the Sixers win Game 3 after James Harden was ejected from the court.

Reflecting on both incidents, an NBA veteran-turned-head coach gave his take on the matter with a controversial stance. As a result of his physical retaliation, Green faced a one-game suspension. However, the decision did not sit well with the Warriors’ front office. It has only been a few months since Green stirred a massive controversy for punching teammate Jordan Poole, and reports suggest that the franchise might be running out of patience with Green’s antics.

Following the Game 3 victory, Philadelphia 76ers coach Doc Rivers spoke extensively about the Draymond Green dispute and Joel Embiid’s foul. Rivers was among the significant number of people who did not agree with the league’s decision to suspend Green. According to the post shared by Rich Hofmann of the Athletic, Rivers believed that Green’s suspension was unfair and called it a ‘very dangerous precedent’.

He said, “If we’re going to start punishing the retaliators and not the instigators, then we got a problem in this league.

Rivers also addressed the recent incident that took place during the Sixers vs Nets game. In less than three minutes into the game, fans witnessed Embiid kick Nets star Nic Claxton. The incident occurred after Claxton stepped over Embiid while he was the latter was lying on the floor. The 1988 All-Star stated that he would have retaliated similarly had it been Rivers in Embiid’s position.

He added, “I’m not picking on Claxton, but I don’t think in a park, you’re standing over Joel. But when you got the refs and everybody else there, you know nothing’s going to happen.”

Rivers concluded by saying, “This is what I’m concerned by: Teams targeting the better players with instigation to get them thrown out, And the better player has to be above with instigation to get them thrown out, and the better player has to be above and can’t retaliate.
