Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics stumbled at the Eastern Conference Finals despite being huge favorites. Not many thought the 8th-seeded Miami Heat had what it took to beat the #1 seed. The Heat, however, beat all odds and took an emphatic 3-0 lead. Even though the Celtics mounted a comeback winning three straight games, Miami eventually won game-7 to clinch the series. After the loss, many have given their take on Boston’s collapse. Now, a former All-Star shared his thoughts while bringing up the Golden State Warriors.

Notably, Stephen Curry and the Warriors also had a disappointing postseason. The reigning champions were eliminated by the Los Angeles Lakers in the Western Conference Semi-Finals.

The Golden State Warriors have been one of the most successful teams in recent years winning four titles in eight seasons. Superstars like Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Kevin Durant played a major role in the team’s success. Over the years, the league has evolved so much. The success of Curry and the Warriors has arguably changed the way the game of basketball is played around the world. Now, more 3-pointers are attempted every game, be it in a local gym or in the NBA.

The problem, however, begins when every player and team tries to emulate the Warriors, according to Gilbert Arenas. The 3-time NBA All-Star also believes the Celtics lost because of this.

During one of the recent episodes of Gil’s Arena podcast, Arenas and his co-hosts discussed the problem of the NBA being a “copycat league”. The former Wizards star admitted that the modern NBA has a huge problem because almost every team tries to play the same way, attempting more 3-pointers.

He added that other teams can’t emulate the Warriors because they do not have the same caliber of shooters. Arenas said, “You don’t have Steph, Kaly, Poole, KD. You don’t have those guys. You need some s**t that fits you.”

The 2003 MIP could not fathom that 90% of players in the league now are shooting more 3-pointers than Ray Allen and Reggie Miller did. He added, “Boston shot 42 3-pointers in game-7. That’s why you lost and got you a** whooped.”

Arenas suggested that the Celtics do not have Ray Allen or Paul Pierce to attempt as many 3-pointers. Notably, Celtics made just 9 of 42 beyond the three-point arc.

Jayson Tatum on his ankle injury

Jayson Tatum was a major driving force behind the Celtics’ comeback attempts. Unfortunately, Tatum sustained an ankle injury early in game-7 that affected his performance. After the elimination, he talked about the frustrating injury. According to a report from CBS News, Tatum said, “I don’t want anybody to feel bad for me. Unfortunately, injuries are part of this game. It was unfortunate and something I tried to battle through throughout the game.”
