The Last Dance is arguably one of the best basketball docuseries ever made. It showed what Michael Jordan went through as a player in his final season. It also showed what he thought about other great players as well.

One of them was ‘The Glove’ Gary Payton, who faced Jordan in the Finals. Jordan took a few shots at Payton in the documentary. But the guard had no problem with Jordan, saying all that as he respects him for being honest.

In the Last Dance, Jordan talked about how Payton was no problem. Gary was seen saying how he made it hard for Jordan and how he would have wished he would have gotten the opportunity sooner to guard Mike. And seeing Gary’s speech on a tab, Jordan just laughs at that. In the end, he said that he had no problem with the Glove.

Many thought that this won’t go down well with Payton, an excellent trash-talker. But Payton explains that he wasn’t angry at this and he would have lost respect for Mike if he hadn’t said how he felt.

Gary Payton says he has no issues with the Last Dance

Payton and Jordan were both part of the NBA 75 team. And he was recently on the Rich Eisen Show where he was asked if he had issues with Michael Jordan and the Last Dance documentary. Payton said,” I don’t care about that. That was his production. I would have no respect for Michael if wouldn’t have said the things that he said. “

Payton also adds that if ever had a doc he would talk without being afraid. And he would tell how he felt. He respects Jordan for being himself and talking the truth. He also adds he has no beef with Michael.

Jordan and Payton faced on in the 1996 NBA Finals in which the Chicago Bulls prevailed over the Seattle Supersonics. After the Bulls took a 3-0 lead, the Sonics decided to put Payton on Jordan for the rest of the series. And this seemed to work as Jordan scored lesser in the last three games and shot a lower shooting percentage as well. But the Bulls still managed to win it in 6. The two still share a mutual respect for each other and have no problems even after Jordan’s comments.
