On Monday night, the Memphis Grizzlies fans went home filled with immense joy as their team claimed the victory over the San Antonio Spurs. However, one young fan was left heartbroken. Ellie Hughes, an 11-year-old girl, has been supporting the Grizzlies in their arena since she was just 5 years old. Through the years, she met every Grizzlies player and got their autographs on a basketball. Naturally, this ball became her most-priced possession. But on Monday night, two adults in the arena grabbed the ball from her and disappeared.
Ellie reached out online and begged for the ball to be returned. While her video went viral, two days later when the Grizzlies beat the Spurs again, Ja Morant healed her broken heart.

Before the second straight game against the Spurs, Ja Morant saw the video online and tweeted about it. He requested folks online to provide him with information about Ellie and her family. Earlier today, after putting up a prolific performance against the Spurs, Morant met the young fan and gave her a signed jersey and his game shoes. He also posed for a photograph with this young fan who strives to never miss a Grizzlies home game. Ellie looked like she was on cloud nine while tears rolled down her cheeks.
Morant’s thoughtful gesture left NBA Twitter impressed. They showered him with high praise and applauded his kindness. Fans were delighted that the little girl got her happy ending and termed Ja’s act to be filled with class. Here are some of the reactions:
