Kareem Abdul-Jabbar gives the House of Dragon a B- score
Kareem like millions of fans, watched the episode. But he did not liked what he saw. He said, “I have to admit to being a little let down after all the time, money, and hype around the series. It has what one expects to see: dragons, bloody conflict, political backstabbing, graphic s*x, cool costumes, and creepy family relationships. But it delivers all that in a predictable and unenthusiastic package. The villain is one-dimensional.”
“The political shenanigans are familiar. What’s missing is the audience caring about what happens because we have no stakes in the outcome, no attachment to the characters. It’s only the first episode, but they would have been better served to make the first one longer to give us characters whose fates we cared about. I’d give it a B, so far.”
