In a matter of just one night, the Phoenix Suns ascended to the top of the NBA. Under new ownership of Mat Ishbia, they traded for Kevin Durant. The single move changed the entire expectation from the number four seed. With arguably one of the most lethal offensive tandems, Phoenix has their eyes on the gold. The new leadership took several surprising calls. Notably, not only did Ishbia make the blockbuster trade for KD, but he also decided to not involve good friend Isiah Thomas according to CBS sports.

For the majority of the season, question arose about the Suns. Notably, more resided off the court. The looming doubt was who would take over next. Several big names came up in the conversation such as Jeff Bezos. However, Mat Ishbia ended up winning the race. Most would expect a new leader to take time to establish a new system. However, that doesn’t seem to be Ishbia style. He went to work quickly and he went big.

Ishbia acquired a 57% stake in the 2021 NBA finalists for over $2 billion. The trade deadline’s clock had only a little over a day. Getting the opportunity to make changes, the businessman got right to work. His first move as the owner could arguably never have been foreseen. Stopping the Phoenix Suns will probably be a hard task even for the best of defense. Their first line of attack comes with Kevin Durant and Devin Booker. The two glorified scorers can score on levels. Deandre Ayton has established holding to be a force on the inside. Tony them all together is the ‘point god’ Chris Paul. Currently the fourth seed, we can expect them to quickly climb once Durant dons the orange jersey.
