NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal mourned the death of Hall of Fame boxing referee Mills Lane during his latest podcast episode. Lane passed away on Tuesday morning after a long, illustrious career in the world of boxing. He was 85 years old. The Boxing world mourned the death of the former referee. Lane officiated more than 100 championship bouts, including the iconic Mike Tyson-Evander Holyfield “Bite Fight.” Mike Tyson’s son Amir Tyson also joined Shaq in mourning the legendary referee’s death.

In the latest episode of the ‘Big Podcast with Shaq,’ Shaq mourned the recent passing of some notable individuals with his co-hosts Nischelle Turner and Spice Adams. He first talked about the death of Los Angeles Lakers fan and broadcasting entrepreneur Norm Pattiz.
Shaquille O’Neal mourns the death of Mills Lane
Shaquille O’Neal then talked about the death of Mills Lane. Shaq stated, “And I also want to give a shout-out to Lane’s Mills family. Mills Lane the boxing referee, he passed away.”
After hearing the news, co-host Nischelle Turner exclaimed in disbelief. The four-time NBA champion then proceeded to talk about the death of actress Kirstie Alley.

Meanwhile, Amir Tyson took to social media to pay his respect to the legendary boxing referee as well. Tyson posted a clip of Lane’s officiating on his Instagram stories.

Mills Lane had an illustrious career
Lane was a former marine who served for three years before attending college. He had a good college boxing career with a record of 10-1. Furthermore, he was a successful prosecutor before becoming a referee. Over the years, he has officiated some interesting fights.

He officiated the fight between Holyfield and Riddick Bowe in 1993 that was interrupted by a paraglider landing in the ring. He threw out a distressed Oliver McCall from his 1997 rematch with Lennox Lewis and also disqualified Henry Akinwande for excessive holding against Lewis four months later. Lane was inducted into the Boxing Hall of Fame in 2013.
