The Golden State Warriors have experienced a great amount of success over the past decade. Winning four NBA championships in the last eight years and housing arguably the greatest shooter in the history of the league. Warriors GM Bob Meyers talked about the success the franchise has had due to Stephen Curry. But he credited his father Dell Curry for his son’s stability in the league.

Stephen Curry’s father Dell Curry played 16 seasons in the league with five different teams. And like his sons, Dell Curry was a long-range shooter as well. Though he perhaps did not achieve the same level of success as his sons have so far.

The secret to Stephen Curry and his stability

Golden State Warriors GM credited Dell for the success Stephen Curry has had in the NBA. Bob Meyers sat down with Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson on the ‘All The Smoke‘ podcast and talked about how having Stephen Curry on his team makes his job so much easier.

Meyers told the hosts that Curry had already gotten a glimpse of how things would’ve been like in the NBA. He said, “When your dad played in the NBA, you just look at it a little differently.” He continued, “Curry was growing up, he was meeting Vince, he’s meeting all these people, Michael Jordan, so when he got here he was like, ‘This is my job, I got my life'”.

And Meyers went on to draw comparisons between players who have had their fathers play in the NBA as opposed to the others. How those players have a different balance to the game and have been around the NBA for the majority of their lives.

He concluded, “So Curry, Curry’s stability has been the main reason.” Indicating that he had already experienced the lifestyle and was able to focus more on the game.

Notably, Meyers also talked about those players who get to experience the life of a professional basketball player. He said, “But a lot of players that show up, they don’t have that, so they lose their minds, which I understand. The money, the fame, and who’s to blame a 22-year-old who gets everything and then doesn’t make the right choices?”

Meanwhile Curry, Meyers argued, had already gotten a taste of it. And that was one reason perhaps why Stephen Curry never got entangled in any off-court drama and was able to focus solely on improving his game day in and day out.
