The Boston Celtics ended the Atlanta Hawks’ season after the team from Georgia put up a strong fight in the latter half of the series. Trae Young’s Hawks nearly forced a Game 7 as Thursday’s matchup went down to the wire. However, the result didn’t go in the Hawks’ favor as they eventually succumbed to a defeat. While it was a hotly contested series, Young and Celtics star Marcus Smart’s honest interaction during Game 6 caught fans’ attention. Following the game, NBA buffs flooded the social media comments section with reactions.

Game 6 had a neck-to-neck competition between both sides as neither team took a massive lead. However, Smart’s outstanding assists helped the Celtics make two crucial three-pointers in the clutch. Eventually, the Boston side avoided a possible Game 7 with a fighting 128-120 victory.

Trae Young and Marcus Smart maintained an unspoken camaraderie throughout the game. Fans witnessed the duo sharing smiles and handshakes several times. However, their conversation with a referee during the game stood out. 

When the Atlanta Hawks star was having a conversation with the referee regarding a foul, Smart stepped in hilariously to eavesdrop. When the referee asked the Celtics star what he wanted, Smart came up with a funny response. He said, “I’m just trying to see what he [Young] telling you.” In response to Smart’s reply, the $207 Million star turned around to share a smile.

Apart from Smart’s response, the fans also enjoyed Young’s initial conversation with the referee. Young explained to the referee when he was being fouled. The official then asked whether he was fouled during a jump shot. Young honestly replied, “I don’t think he touched me up there.”

Moreover, the duo also engaged in a hilarious tussle during the fourth quarter. When Young tried to inbound the ball from the sideline, the Hawks star couldn’t pass the ball past Smart. Eventually, he ended up hitting Smart’s legs twice in frustration. However, the stars settled the issue immediately with a smile and handshake.
