The Phoenix Suns dropped the ball in the first game of the seven-game series against the Los Angeles Clippers. Rarely anyone expected the Clippers to come out on top, especially considering the fact that they played without Paul George, who is out with an injury. Now that the Clippers have taken the home-court advantage from the Suns, NBA legend Charles Barkley’s staggering take may trigger LeBron James and Kevin Durant.

Philadelphia 76ers legend Charles Barkley recently got into a heated debate with co-host Ernie Johnson on NBA on TNT. This was one of the rare moments when Barkley and Ernie got into it as the duo shares a great relationship. Nonetheless, the Clippers’ performance made Barkley confident about their intentions heading forward.

The win over the Suns in the final game of the season helped the Clippers stay ahead of the likes of the Los Angeles Lakers and the Golden State Warriors in the West. The Clippers could’ve even finished as the eighth seed in the West if results hadn’t gone their way, but they did not settle and secured a higher spot instead.

Barkley went on to say, “They won the game to play the Suns”. He indicated that the Clippers made sure they beat the Suns in the last game of the season in order to get the tougher matchup.

Charles Barkley explained how the Lakers got the easiest path to the Western Conference Finals. The former 11-time All-Star said, “If you actually look at it now, you’d say, ‘damn. The Lakers, that was the easiest path to the Conference finals.’”

Barkley also clarified, “The Clippers played their starters (in the final regular season game). I said, ‘Man, they could lose this game and be in a Lakers situation’. But they really wanna play the Suns.” The 76ers legend made sure to also point out that the Lakers must feel pretty good given that they do not have to face top-tier teams in the West as opposed to the Clippers.

So, in essence, Barkley not only downplayed LeBron James and the Lakers for taking the easier path but also supported the Clippers to win the series, which may end up triggering Kevin Durant as well.

He even had some high praises for Clippers star Kawhi Leonard. Ernie Johnson said that Barkley was a firm believer in the Clippers team, despite them being the underdogs in their matchup against Phoenix. To that, Barkley said, “Yeah, that’s just on paper.”
