The Los Angeles Lakers created a huge dynasty throughout the years in the NBA. Players like Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O’Neal, Magic Johnson, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar are well-known anchors of the Purple and Gold legacy in basketball. However, many other stars helped these legends on the court to realize this dream-like success. Pau Gasol is one of them. In fact, the Spaniard’s efforts might be rewarded soon as he has been named as a 2023 Hall of Fame finalist. Meanwhile, after years of service to the Lakers, the Spanish star credited everything to his late friend and legend Kobe Bryant, and recalled his legacy in a heartwarming eulogy.

“I grew as a player, I played at a higher level, Thanks to him[Kobe Bryant], in great part,” said Gasol. He further added, “…my name my number, they don’t go on the rafters, without those championships, right? And we don’t win those championships without Kobe Bryant being the best player in the world, on the floor, in history. So again, he’ll always be with me.

Gasol was named as one of the 12 nominees for induction into the Naismith Basketball Hall-of-Fame in April 2023. Additionally, he will have his jersey no. 16 retired on 7th March by the Lakers when they face the Memphis Grizzlies at Crypto.com arena.  It is a huge honor for the Spanish legend to be amongst greatness and considering his partnership with Kobe Bryant, it is rightly deserved.
